00:23:18Guest:And your road is full of mud And you can't be satisfied
00:23:43Guest:You don't know what you do to me no more Trouble in your blood goes on Trouble in your blood goes on
00:24:49Guest:He's my friend, but he's no friend to me Just ask him why he'll tell you casually
00:25:07Guest:Washed up bitter, broke and busted Backstabbed everyone he trusted Says he sees what no one else can see
00:25:23Guest:But if I had half his guts I'd want it To chase that fatalistic comet And die young in the dark, that's poetry But it was not to be No, it was not For me
00:25:58Guest:He's always sad, but I've never seen him cry When he comes to shirt, he'll apologize
00:26:15Guest:find his car assess the damage still drunk but he likes a challenge holds on to his mind just like a kite
00:26:32Guest:But a good strong wind will keep you honest, fill you with some common knowledge.
00:26:41Guest:Things when we were young we never tried.
00:26:49Guest:I figured we had time with such a long life.
00:27:07Guest:Money clips, alligator shoes Just one more dance he's in that champagne room
00:27:24Guest:Where she moves like a chocolate fountain Pouring, spilling all around him Makes him wonder what else she can do
00:27:41Guest:But how bittersweet is love's illusion Feelings that cannot be proven Just trust me, you'll see my aim is true I've done this all for you I've suffered long for you
00:28:16Guest:So many times he tried to play it straight He just worked in, worked in till his body ate
00:28:40Guest:But a brand new life will lose its luster Troubles tend to find each other Call it luck, or you can call it fate
00:28:58Guest:But either way, it's how it happens Not the life that you imagine So just go out with a bang like Hemingway Some will say you're brave Some will say
00:29:25Guest:You ain't.
00:29:55Guest:Hear the sound When my love's around Whistling the trees It sits inside the breeze
00:30:28Guest:Louder, louder So sing Louder, louder
00:31:03Guest:Now shuffling on the ground So come hold me, we won't be
00:32:14Guest:This is the last song on our record, and it's a song called Grand Canyon that I wrote about a part of our trucker family.
00:32:25Guest:His official job was he was our merch guy, but he was actually kind of our ambassador.
00:32:30Guest:He worked the merch table on our tours for seven years, but in the course of doing that, he got to know literally hundreds and hundreds of our fans, like
00:32:41Guest:He just had this kind of photographic memory for people and names and really built relationships and was kind of like the guy that they all knew.
00:32:51Guest:And he and I were – he was close friends with all of us too.
00:32:56Guest:And he died really suddenly about a year ago.
00:32:59Guest:Yeah.
00:33:01Guest:And we were not long before we made the record, and we were all just kind of devastated.
00:33:07Guest:And the first tour we had to do without him was like the week after he passed.
00:33:11Guest:And I wrote this song for him on that tour, and it's the last song on the record, which we dedicated the album to him.
00:33:20Guest:But his name's Craig Liske, and the song's called Grand Canyon.
00:33:39Guest:I went to Grand Canyon And we stood at the expanse And we watched the rocks change colors And we watched the shadows dance
00:33:57Guest:And we probably didn't say anything As the sunset turned to night We led the spirits through the talking Through cascades of fading light And we drove across the desert
00:34:27Guest:Saw the mountain range at dawn Heard the thunder rumbles echo Against the rocks that gods were made from And we drove across the wastelands Till we finally reached the sea And I wonder how life so sturdy Could just one day cease to be
00:34:57Guest:I was never one to wonder about the things beyond control.
00:35:03Guest:I stare off into the darkness and I feel the highway roll.
00:35:11Guest:I feel the highway roll.
00:35:22Guest:And we run on in the darkness Till the nighttime turns to day All our sorrows, pains and angers And we turn them into play There's no time to dwell upon it This is life that we chose
00:35:47Guest:They made it all worth living Missed the sorrows that life throws The recently departed made the sunsets Say farewell to the ones they left behind They were taking the color hues To see our sadness through As the sun of wrath and say goodbye Say goodbye
00:36:22Say goodbye.
00:36:59Guest:There's a white aisle out my window
00:37:28Guest:Soft lit and fading light Watch it stirring through the clouds Watch it running through the night My dreams I still can see Flying through a western sky
00:37:50Guest:And I think about Grand Canyon And I lift my glass and smile I lift my glass and smile
00:38:48Guest:well just do it that's right
00:39:08Guest:do do
00:39:29Marc:Wanna go to an A?
00:39:48We'll be right back.
00:40:17That's cool.
